CleanSlate’s Exponential 2020 Growth and a Look Forward to 2021

As we step into a new year, we look back at the incredible 2020 that CleanSlate UV experienced and look forward to 2021 innovations.

cleanslate's growth in 2020

2020 started humbly for CleanSlate UV. A total of 6 employees, just over 100 deployments, and a heavy focus on the North American hospital market. By March, things were about to change.

“No one could have foreseen what 2020 would bring,” said Taylor Mann, CEO and Co-Founder of CleanSlate UV, “Germs on mobile devices have never been a hospital-only problem, but before COVID, that’s where the awareness was. We had the fastest and most effective product in the market, and it integrated seamlessly into hand hygiene processes. But with the COVID-19 pandemic, the spotlight grew, and infection control quickly became a mainstream issue.”

Over the course of nine months CleanSlate UV expanded into 6 new countries, and added channel partners across nine new industries. The company hired 45 new team members across the USA and Canada, many with deep industry experience.

This demand speaks for itself. CleanSlate UV devices have been used over 30 million times in 2020, sanitizing an estimated 60 million smartphones, tablets and other items. In total, CleanSlate UV devices have prevented nearly 350,000 chemical wipes from flowing into landfills while providing a fast, simple and effective tool for sanitizing devices.

There were two primary factors behind the 2020 success of CleanSlate UV’s products.

  1. CleanSlate UV is the most scientifically validated UV sanitizer on the market. Prior to COVID-19 the company had an efficacy package that included peer-reviewed studies and 3rd party lab data. All of this ensures that facilities can deploy CleanSlate UV machines and trust they will be effective.  This focus on science was reinforced during COVID itself, as CleanSlate UV became the first device sanitizer to test against SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19. The product achieved a fantastic 99.995% kill rate in just 20 seconds.
  2. The CleanSlate UV is incredibly easy to use. While it was designed for the rigors of the hospital, it is meant to be so simple that anyone can use it. This has allowed customers in retail, hospitality, transportation, food processing and more to deploy CleanSlate UV sanitizers for their staff, customers and visitors.

Over the past nine months, CleanSlate UV has also made five major firmware releases (expanding support to French and Spanish languages),  added over 1000 new deployments including six U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll Facilities, and added prominent non-hospital partners such as Hudson’s Bay and Toronto Pearson Airport.

“It’s almost overwhelming to think about the number of pathogens we have stopped from spreading via mobile devices,” Mann continues, “If you had told us in 2019 that by the end of 2020 we would have 30 million uses, our jaws would have hit the floor. This is so motivating for us. In 2021 we are excited to continue our growth inside and outside hospitals. Device hygiene has never been a hospital-only problem, and awareness generated by COVID-19 will act as a market catalyst for years to come.”

Focusing on, albeit unpredicted, growth in 2020, CleanSlate is shifting focus to innovation in 2021. You can expect to see major software innovationsnew products and new purchasing models all supported by customer research to match demand.

Today’s world is unlike any other, the decision to include CleanSlate as part of an infection prevention measure is an easy one. CleanSlate UV will continue to trailblaze in the medical technology space, leaving the competition obsolete.
